The fickle lake winds tantalised the riders with the prospect of racing on day two of the KiteFoil World Series Traunsee in Austria, only to send their hopes crashing to the water. Time and again the race committee attempted a race start for the men in yellow and blue qualifying groups, but the disappearing breeze at the top of the course made it impossible for the riders to keep their kites in the sky.
Chaotic mountain weather meant no racing for day one of the KiteFoil World Series Traunsee in Austria. Warm weather and scarcely a breath of wind was suddenly interrupted by sudden gusts and lashings of rain. Kitefoil racing wasn’t an option. Instead the 58 male and female riders had to make their fun in different and creative ways. 
Fifty-eight of the most accomplished riders from 26 nations and five continents are ready to compete in the KiteFoil World Series Traunsee in Austria over the next four days from 16 to 19 June. Registration day produced perfect foiling conditions on spectacular Traunsee, Austria’s answer to Lake Garda. With the blazing sun driving air temperatures up to 28 degrees celsius, the thermal winds rose to 16 knots in the southern section of the 12km-long lake near Salzburg.
The International Kiteboarding Association (IKA) Executive Committee echoes the reaction of the International Olympic Committee regarding the developing situation in Ukraine. Sport can be a force for good, bringing competitors from around the world together, united by the values of equality, inclusion, respect and fairness. We hope that the hostilities will end and that constructive dialogue will lead to the resolution of any differences.
